In yesterday's post, we discussed the critical Platinum thinset by Laticrete that allows the shotcrete shell to expand and contract at different rates from the glass tile. This thinset is the while material between the glass tile and browning mortar in the picture below. When shopping for a pool company, ensure that they use Platinum thinset for your glass tile. 

Younger masons attempt to use laser levels for tile, but they are not accurate enough for pools. Over the length of your 40' pool, the tile could be 1/2" higher on one end than the other. For laser levels, the slightest position change can make a huge difference. 

The best masons use a basic water level which has withstood the test of time. In fact, your pool will be a giant water level when completed. You will want the water to align with the same grout line all the way around the pool, so insist that your mason uses a water level. A simple bucket with water and a clear plastic hose is all that is needed for a perfectly level waterline tile installation.
